Rd9 Motostar FINAL – Brands Hatch

jj and jake

Heading to Brands Hatch for the 3rd and final time of the 2018 season. Although the championship had been wrapped up by my team mate Jake Archer at the previous round … it was down to me to get Team City Lifting a 1st and 2nd in series!

With mixed weather forecast for the weekend – we started Friday practice sessions off with blustery gales across the GP circuit.

FP1 and FP2: Both sessions went without a hitch – just had to deal with the cross wind going into Paddock Hill bend down the hill, which was a little interesting! Took P1 in both sessions – and happy with the bike set up.

Qualifying: The Motostar class were first out on track, thankfully it was dry following a bit of rain overnight but the wind was still gusting! Heading out to dial in and get in the groove – I had already set the fastest lap of the session before coming in for a fresh rear tyre. Taking back to the track to I took the final qualifying pole position of the year.

Saturday Race1 (10 laps): I had a good start but so did the others on the front row – having a close battle on the first lap. I retook the lead on lap 2 and ‘pulled the pin’ where I stayed uninterrupted to the chequered flag and a comfortable 3.4 second gap race WIN!

Sunday Race2 (12 laps): Oh such joyful weather it was for race2 …NOT!! Unsurprisingly it was declared a wet race – I think we would’ve had more fun on jet-skis but the show goes on… I started the race 2nd on the grid. I knew what I had to do and in these crazy wet conditions it was no easy task, as many riders proved it falling all over the place with standing water across the track. By lap 4 keeping an eye on my pitboard I was sitting in 2nd with a growing gap behind to 3rd. Taking the final chequered flag and my 13th podium finish of the season.

I had done it, securing 2nd in the Hel Performance British Motostar Championship along side my team mate – and also No.1 rookie in class.
